I was listening to the Videogamer podcast over the weekend and they started a discussion I found interesting. It was about a poll they found on ukvouchercodes.co.uk asking which was the Male Video Game Character you wanted to be.
Here’s the top 10
Ezio Auditore da Firenze – Assassins Creed 2
Nathan Drake – Uncharted
Prince – Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
Master Chief – Halo
Dante – Devil May Cry
Zidane – Final Fantasy 9
Duke Nukem – Duke Nukem 3D
Kratos – God of War
Link – Legend of Zelda
John Marston – Red Dead Redemption
Now ignoring the travesty that was Nathan Drake not being number one and the madness of Zidane even being on the list the question was raised as to whether or not Link is a “character” or is he an “avatar”? Heated discussion ensued, as to whether or not a “character” has to speak, be visible, have a personality to upgrade them from “avatar”. That’s not to say that one is better than the other, this is simply about defining the difference.
